Need explanations and links to further reading for terminologies such as ‘aid effectiveness’ and ‘direct support’? IRC’s new glossary is designed to help anyone working in the WASH sector understand commonly used terms and concepts.
The glossary is designed to help those studying or working on sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services, including those applying a service delivery approach and/ or the life-cycle costs approach. It articulates IRC's understanding of commonly used terms and concepts, and aids communications with other sector practitioners, researchers, policy makers and students.
The glossary focuses on the way certain words and phrases are used in IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre, and more broadly in the sector. However, some of these terms may be used in slightly different ways by different organisations and individuals. Definitions and the meaning of words and phrases can change subtly over time.
